Moving (again!)

Notes from moving from McFarland to Palo Alto. We got kinda tight on time towards the end, but it worked out. No U-haul van like last time, but also no furniture.

Lessons learned:
  1. The G20 has a surprisingly large cargo capacity.
  2. Removing the fish from the tank makes moving them (and the tank) a lot easier.
  3. We get cranky when tired.
  4. Moving takes a long time.
Here's our notes from the process:

8/13

Did a couple trips (all boxes) before today. Car can fit 6 white boxes + handtruck in trunk.

SC sold books on Amazon. I sold some electronics on eBay and we sold/gave away a good amount of stuff on SUPost. Craigslist for one item, which was much more effective.

Also, trip to recycling center (old desktop computer, Sam's amp), but hazardous waste is only 1st Saturday of month.

Couple runs today. Got up at 9:00, first run around 11:00.

1st run: recycling, post office (for SC's Amazon books; receipt time 12:38). Brought over my computer stuff and some boxes.

Lunch of the leftover frozen foods (SC probably won't have freezer space in new place)

2nd run: kitchen stuff, books to donate (Palo Alto library), coffee table.

Home Depot. Lid for 5-gal bucket and possibly Forearm Forklift for the fish. Vacillated and ended up getting a ratchet tie-down strap, despite the Prop 65 warning. We are starting to get cranky. Receipt time 5:48.

Dinner at Pluto's. Receipt 6:16.

3rd run: fish. Were able to net all the fish. We have 2 nets now, a 3" and a 5" (new), and the fish aren't as freaked out this time. We did discover one cowfish (the one with missing mouth whiskers) dead in the new tank. He must have found the fish tube, and possibly starved? Besides Oto, nobody else knows how to use the tube, and it can be pretty dangerous if you can't get back. This also must have happened fairly recently.
After netting the fish into lidded yogurt containers, i drained 5 gal into the bucket, the drained as much of the remaining water as I could (just over 1 gal). Tank is not too bad afterwards. Definitely carryable by one person without problem, though easier with two.

Got back around 9:00. Took a break, started packing clothes. Tired. Real tired, and a little cranky. 10:46 now.

Did some cleaning. Bed at 12:30.

8/14

Up at 6:00. Tried to eat tong yuan for breakfast.

Left with fishes at 7:15. Back at 8:00

Left with next run (photo) at 9:15, back at 9:45

Short run at 10:30, back at 11:15
